  • tScheme proposals

    The Electronic Communications Bill received Royal Assent on Thursday 25th May. .
    Subsequent to the bill passing all its substantive hurdles, the first meeting of the tScheme Board took place under the chairmanship of the Director General, FEI
    The creation of tScheme, a company set up to certify Trust Service Provders by FEI and 16 other organisations, has resulted in the removal from the Bill of proposals for immediate imposition of a government regulatory scheme.

  • Data Processing Sector Boosts Semiconductor Market for 1999 and 2000.

    The Semiconductor Manufacturers Association (SMA), part of the FEI, has announced its market forecast for 1999/2000.

    As the forecast showed in February, there will be overall growth in 1999 of around 13% with UK market growth showing 16%. The Republic of Ireland, however, will grow only 4% - 13% below the original forecast due to the closure of a manufacturing facility. In 2000, the semiconductor growth for UK & Ireland is forecast to be 18% with Ireland's growth being greater than that of the UK.

  • Electronic Communications Bill a Boost for Business.

    Early implementation of the Electronic Communications Bill has been welcomed by the Alliance for Electronic Business.

    Commenting on the second reading of the Electronic Communications Bill, Peter Agar, Chairman of AEB said, "We believe that this bill is crucial to UK business and we applaud the speed with which the Government has responded by introducing it early in its timetable".

    Brussels, 16 November 1999- - EICTA, the new European Information and Communications Technology Industry Association - has held its founding General Assembly in Brussels today.
