Managing Director of STMicroelectronics Ltd
Albert Shipton, Managing Director of STMicroelectronics Ltd is appointed president of FEI with effect from 18 May 2000.
Qualifying as an electronics engineer in 1964, Albert Shipton worked for GEC, Mullard and Cossor Electronics on a range of development projects primarily in the field of radio communications and reception. Since the late 1960s he has worked in sales and marketing mainly with semiconductor companies (Motorola, General Instruments and SGS-Thomson. For three years he worked for STC Components, Quartz Crystal Division.
In July 1988 he joined SGS-Thomson with responsibility for all Sales and Marketing functions in the UK. In October 1994 he was appointed to the position of Director of Sales and Marketing - Computer Business Unit, Europe.
In June 1995, Shipton was appointed Managing Director of SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics Ltd responsible for all sales and marketing activity in the UK and Ireland. He also has overall management responsibility for the STMicroelectronics engineering centres in Bristol and Edinburgh.
Previously, Shipton held the position of Chairman of the Components Council at the FEI. His focus has always been on providing added value services to members as well as promoting their interests with the UK government and in Europe via EECA (The European Electronic Components Association).
The FEI Deputy President
David Jordan, Chairman and Managing Director of Philips Electronics UK Ltd is appointed deputy president of FEI with effect from 18 May 2000.
